Enlighten SME publishes free guides for UK homeowners, and keeping that work going costs money. This page explains in plain terms how the site is funded, what advertising you may see, and where the line sits between advertising and editorial judgement. It should be read alongside our Editorial Policy and Cookie Policy.

How the Site Is Funded

The site is supported by display advertising served by Google AdSense. When an advert is shown or clicked, Google may pay a small amount to the site. We do not charge readers, we do not run a membership, and we do not sell tradespeople a listing or a recommendation.

What You May See

Adverts are supplied automatically by Google and are not selected by our editors. Because they are chosen by an advertising system, an advert may be for a tradesperson, a supplier or a product that relates to the page you are reading. Its appearance is not an endorsement by Enlighten SME, and we have not checked the businesses or claims in it. Please apply the same checks to an advertiser that our buyer guide suggests for anyone else you might hire.

Mentions of Trade Bodies and Products

When a guide names a registration scheme, a regulator or a type of product, it does so because it is useful for a homeowner to know about, not because the organisation asked. We do not endorse individual tradespeople, and a mention on this site is never a guarantee of any business’s quality or suitability for your project.
